Bespoke Sarong Kebaya

Online Short Course Apparel Design and Product Development

Master the art of creating the Sarong Kebaya with our course. Learn advanced patternmaking, sewing skills, and custom-fit techniques for this traditional South East Asian garment. Embrace sustainable fashion with made-to-measure, bespoke clothing.

Overview

This course offers a deep dive into the art of creating the Sarong Kebaya, a traditional South East Asian skirt and blouse ensemble. Emphasizing the importance of custom-fitted garments in modern fashion, this course will equip learners with advanced patternmaking and sewing skills, focusing on creating form-fitting silhouettes customized to individual client measurements. The rise of made-to-measure and bespoke clothing reflects a growing trend among fashion consumers for sustainable, unique apparel that suits their figure, taste, and style. The Sarong Kebaya, popularized globally as the Singapore Airlines uniform by French designer Pierre Balmain, epitomizes this trend. Learners will gain insights into drafting fitted garments, with specific attention to the unique aspects of the Kebaya and Sarong. This includes drafting a basic blouse and skirt block based on specific measurements, exploring various pleated skirt styles, and achieving a perfect fit through meticulous sewing and pattern adjustment. The course will also cover high-quality construction finishes, essential for working with intricate batik fabrics.
